Pure Joy and Instinctive Desire A Double Bill Where Different Emotions Meet The opening production of the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet’s 2026 season presents a double bill where ecstatic joy and seductive energy coexist. Works by Johan Inger, who leads the global dance scene with his distinctive choreographic language, and Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, two of the most compelling choreographic voices of today, come together on a single stage. Last year, the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet introduced Johan Inger’s Bliss to Asia for the first time. Set to Keith Jarrett’s The Köln Concert , the work left a profound impression through its free-flowing movement. Like an improvisation born under imperfect conditions, the dancers express moments of ecstasy within a flow whose beginning and end seem impossible to define. Returning one year later with richer interpretation, Bliss will feature new dancers joining the Seoul Metropolitan Ballet for the season, bringing fresh emotional resonance to the stage. Equally striking is Jakie , created by the iconic choreographic duo Sharon Eyal and Gai Behar, whose sensual and highly physical aesthetic has attracted worldwide attention. Premiered in 2023 by Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), the work unfolds over the rhythm of electronic music, where precise group formations and individual energies merge into a powerful harmony. Hypnotic movements, ritualistic tension, and the mesmerizing rhythm of bodies filling the stage invite the audience into a captivating experience.
