2026 Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Chamber Classics II: Slav

For many composers, music lived in their hearts for a long time before they were able to step forward and fully devote themselves to it. Among Russian composers in particular, there were many who followed such paths. The composers featured in this chamber concert under the theme “Slav” share a similar story. The program presents works by Alexander Borodin, who pursued a distinguished career as a chemist while leaving an enduring legacy in music, and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who turned wholeheartedly to music after initially studying law. The concert begins with Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, one of his most beloved works, especially admired for the beautiful exchange of melodies between the cello and violin in the third movement. Following this piece is Tchaikovsky’s String Sextet in D minor, Op. 70, Souvenir de Florence. In this work, violinist Simone Lamsma joins members of the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra to reveal a world of string ensemble writing that is unusually direct and intense, presenting a powerful side of Tchaikovsky that differs from his more familiar lyrical style. 주최: 세종문화회관
