The 3rd Hoban Artist Awards

행사 소개

From September 4 to 27, 2026, the Hoban Cultural Foundation presents Not Yet, Not Anymore, Still, a solo exhibition by Yeesookyung at the Sejong Museum of Art. The exhibition is a special presentation marking the artist's receipt of the 2026 Hoban Artist Awards. Established in 2022, the Hoban Artist Awards honors the fierce artistic spirit of artists who have widened the horizons of contemporary art through a creative world entirely their own. Each year an artist is chosen through a rigorous and impartial jury process, and the recipient is supported with prize money of 100 million won and a solo exhibition — a contribution to the range and the depth of contemporary art in Korea. This year the award goes to Yeesookyung, who has traced a singular artistic path through an aesthetic of tradition and the contemporary, of the fragment and its recombination. We hope that on this stage, the deep resonance of her artistic world will reach those who come to see it and open new horizons of thought. Crossing continually between painting, sculpture, installation, video, and performance, Yeesookyung has built a territory of narrative imagination that belongs to no one else. Her work is often described through the Translated Vase series, which first appeared in 2002, but her experiments have never been confined to the sanctuary of a single medium. Joining broken ceramic shards with gold leaf and multiplying them without end, she has challenged the ideal authority of wholeness and of the original form ( 原型 ) — and this method carries over intact across painting, sculpture, and media.
