APS Symphonia: The 22nd Regular Concert

Designated a professional arts organization by the Seoul Metropolitan Government in 2021, the Academy of Passion & Sharing is a body of professional performers who share a passion for music (Academy), founded in 2015 by the violist and conductor Yoonil Jin on the shared philosophy of sharing that passion (Passion) with an audience (Sharing). Taking "discovery and reinterpretation" as its identity, the ensemble seeks out new music, and works to join classical music with popular music, Korean traditional music, and other genres, developing the results into a wide range of programming. Since the 1st APS Sharing Concert in 2016 it has presented a varied body of work, including the Kim Kwang-seok 20th Memorial Concert at Hakchon Blue Small Theater , an invited performance at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP), and a curated program at the Joy Ol Park Festival . It was selected as a supported organization of the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture in 2017, and in 2018 received the Arts & Business Award at the Korea Mecenat Awards . Selected for Arts Council Korea's mid- to long-term creative support program in 2019 and again in 2024, it is receiving three years of funding. Since COVID-19 in 2020 the ensemble has shifted its operating direction to an ESG framework and has built its regular concerts around ESG themes. To that end it commissions and premieres works from Korean composers that answer each theme, an effort it describes as bringing contemporary music into the present, and it presents each programme alongside a lecture by an invited specialist from the humanities or another field.
