From the universal to the personal in music. Built around the theme of German and Austrian Romanticism, this chamber music program offers a gradual experience of how the passage of time has shifted the very face of music. Part I features Mozart's Horn Quintet from 1782, with its pastoral, purely musical character, alongside Schubert's String Trio from 1817, which wears a gentler face — together allowing listeners to feel the gradual shift from Classicism into Romanticism. In Part II, Johannes Brahms's Piano Quintet of 1864 is performed. Joining the string quartet, the piano of Francesco Piemontesi layers dense, rich harmonies onto the composer's anguish — and the quintet that emerges from this meeting will leave audiences with a resonance as weighty as one of his symphonies.
