A chance encounter with a sensation suddenly summons a long-forgotten memory, and it is from that very memory that the novel unfolds. With the passage of time, everything fades away, but art seizes that time and preserves it forever. In Search of Lost Time traces a journey toward the realization of this great calling and stands as one of the defining masterpieces of the 20th century. "As she stood there beside him, brushing his cheek with the loosened tresses of her hair, bending one knee in what was almost a dancer's pose, so that she could lean without tiring herself over the picture, at which she was gazing, with bended head, out of those great eyes, which seemed so weary and so sullen when there was nothing to animate her, Swann was struck by her resemblance to the figure of Zipporah, Jethro's Daughter, which is to be seen in one of the Sistine frescoes.“ The Marcel Proust Concert, the tenth installment of the Inframince Concert series, centers on Swann in Love . Marcel, the novel's protagonist and narrator, looks up to Charles Swann. Born into a wealthy Jewish family, Swann is a man with a deep interest in art and a discerning eye. The story begins in earnest when he falls in love with Odette. Swann projects his aesthetic sensibility onto Odette and is gradually drawn to her, but as his love deepens, his judgment is swept away by emotion. What makes the work so original is that it is far more than a simple love story. Music and art are woven deep into the narrative, subtly revealing the nature of love and art, desire and obsession.
