2026 Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra Chamber Classics VI: Korea

At the far edge of an autumn that has arrived before we knew it, the last chamber programme of the year sounds out. It opens with Jun-hee Im's Dancing Sanjo 3 for piano, violin, and gayageum, and continues with Donghoon Shin's My Shadow, for clarinet, two violins, cello, and piano, and Isang Yun's Nore for cello and piano. These are works that carry something of the Ars Nova series to which the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra once devoted itself, and from several angles they ask what it is that makes something Korean. The concert closes with Johannes Brahms's Clarinet Trio in A minor, Op. 114, for clarinet, cello, and piano. Brahms held the feeling of loneliness close to him all his life, and this work — desolate beyond measure, yet carrying a firmness that says one can somehow go on — will make the autumn of 2026 a season to remember.
