‘Jeongeupsa’ is the only song passed down out of songs during the period of the Three States and its music is Jeongeupgok. Sujecheon has been developed into a representative piece of Jeongak music. The spirit of Donghak Peasant Revolution led to independence movements including the March 1st Movement and the April Revolution. During the period of military dictatorship, it continued to the Gwangju Uprising and the candlelight revolution. Although Jeongeup is the birthplace of Jeongeupsa Temple, Sujecheon and the Donghak Peasant Revolution, it is not widely known in the country. Therefore, the Sujecheon Conservation Society tries to shed light on the troubled lives of the general public and their attempts to achieve equality through music in the wake of the designation of the Donghak Peasant Revolution as a national holiday (2019). The fact that the spirit of Donghak is inherited through music, one of metaphysical expressions, rather than words will prove that Jeongeup is a high quality city of culture and humanities.
