JongKyun Kim, 3rd Composition Recital: 古典 & Classic

This concert was conceived to explore the harmony between tradition and the present, and between East and West, through works that reinterpret th e Korean gojeon ( 古典 ) and the Western classic in the composer's own sensibility. Part I draws inspiration from classical Chinese poetry, court solo dance, and four-character idioms, recomposing them from a combination of disparate Eastern and Western musical materials. Part II gives creative expression to a Korean sensibility and a contemporary one within the sonata, a form central to the Western classical tradition.
