Seoul Metropolitan Chorus “Masters Series

행사 소개

SMC x Andre J. Thomas The Seoul Metropolitan Chorus’ “Masters Series” in 2023 features guest conductor Dr. Andre J. Thomas, acclaimed choral conductor, composer and music professor, in order to shed new light on American history and sentiment reflected in the American choral music. Choral music generally differs by people and country in a close relationship with their own language. Represented by Zoltán Kodály’s works, Hungarian choral music has developed its own unique musical language combined with folk music, and American choral music has developed in a way that encompasses diverse musical values and trends stemming from their multi-ethnic construct. The “Masters Series” will offer a good opportunity to discover the contemporary American choral music in contrast with the traditional European choral music. The program will cover diverse choral music from African-Americans’ spirituals that expressed joys and sorrows in their life as slaves longing for returning home to the contemporary choral music written by African-American composers hoping for a perfect world to be built on the foundation of their ancestors’ great sacrifice. Dr. Andre J. Thomas - Professor Emeritus at Florida State University - President of American Choral Directors Association(ACDA) - LSO(London Symphony Orchestra) Associate Artist 주최: 세종문화회관
