The first gift that everyone is presented at birth is the body. What position does the body have in art, and what changes in texture will it undergo when it comes across art out of daily life? Someday, when the body disappears from the world, what will happen to the traces of dance and art that the body poures out during its existence? On the path to questions and answers about the body and dance, we have come into contact with the Geomungo and the Cheolhyungeum (string instrument), and the materials of the strings that make the sound of these instruments, which are threads and iron. As a matter of fact, thread is a material for fabric and clothes, and iron is a material for tools and weapons. The intersection of the two can be said to be clothes, but in order for the thread to turn into clothes, it has to endure the pain of being cut and torn by iron. A peaceful harmony between the two seemed impossible, but an unexpected change occurred when the two meet art. Thread takes a part of the Geomungo as its strings, and iron as the string of the Cheolhyungeum, with newly granted identity. Likewise, when we meet art, our body is also reborn as a dancing instrument and string, rather than staying in the medium of daily life where we walk, run, sit, and sleep. The body has gained a new identity as a passage for dance and as a language of art, and now is allowed to live a life with a different texture. The thread, iron, and body that get acquainted with art also will become wear and tear at some point as the strength of time is added upon and upon, and return to the ground. However, even where they have vanished into the thin air, the artistic trails they have walked along remain in mankind in a form of any other creatures or genes and permeate into someone's life. The quest for life between the birth and death of a person, and the gaze and respect for the art accompanying that life are contained in “Thread and Iron: The String of the Body". 주최: 세종문화회관
