- PROGRAM - Sixteen Goodbyes composed by Park Chun-geun, written by Choi Myung-hoon This work is “mono opera” where a single actor leads the whole story different from general operas with diverse characters appeared. Even if it can feel her, it can’t be seen, even if it can say, it can’t listen to, the leading actor sings a song by itself. Piano substitutes the blind and the deaf with music. The leading actor is taken by so-called “bass baritone” (Basso Cantante). Black but White Land composed by Park Chun-geun, written by Shin Dong-il The script of opera `Black but White Land` is a very unique and hard work in addressing with music. How can the complicated and subtle emotion be expressed with characters and a medium introduced in Old Testament appearing and Christianity and folk religions being mingled? How can the continued anxiety and tension be formed by using diverse expression methods? How can the unrealistic words made by mythological features be delivered persuasively? It is not a work which found out expression methods in music. Rather it is a work needed to be studied with more time. I am on the road to find out the answer. I show myself standing on the road. Witch/ composed by Ko Jae-gui, written by Lim Jun-hee Reborn from witch to mother through the transcendental love to son and sing the heart of mother finding out her own light in the darkness. For Ko Jae-gui’s descriptive and metaphorical language to be expressed with musical language, it was composed by seeking for the combination of the Baroque expression style of western ‘Camerata’ originated from tragedy of Greece and Korean unique shamanism. - PROFILE - Composer Shin Dong-il Currently serves as president of Jakgok Madang and Tombang, and teaches at Korea National University of Arts Composer Lim Jun-hee Currently serves as a professor at Traditional Art Center, Korea National University of Arts.
