PROGRAM Schubert, String Trio in B-flat major, D.471 Mozart, Quartet for Flute, Violin, Viola and Cello No. 1 in D major, K.285 Franck, Piano Quintet in f minor, Op. 14 Program Notes Schubert composed three string trios, all of which are in B♭ major written in his early days. The string trio D.471 was completed when he was staying with his close friend, Franz Schober at his house. Though it is unfinished work only with the 1st movement and the incomplete 2nd movement, it contains the core of Schubert’s new musical vision at the time. The following Mozart’s flute quartet K.285 is the most well-known among his four pieces of the same instrumentation. Not only the configuration is unique with a flute plus three strings, but also it has a concerto-like character with a solo line by flute on its simple form. Franck’s piano quintet featuring pianist Kim Sunwook is notable for its cyclical form where one theme goes through the entire movements. This can be often found in large scale symphonic works by Wagner’s with leitmotif or in Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique with idée fixe. While one theme goes through the entire work, a dark sentiment with sorrowful passion creeps in. 주최: 세종문화회관
