The 7th Jonggeundang Art Prize

행사 소개

This exhibition is an invitational exhibition of Kim Chang-young, Seo Min-jeong and Seo Won-mi, who were awarded at the Jonggeundang Art Prize in 2018. ‘The Jonggeundang Art Prize’ was planned to provide an opportunity for artists who have participated in major art support programs in the country to become more active. Even if a number of new artists have been discharged every year, systematic programs to support them are insufficient and it is very unfortunate that it is rare for promising artists to enter the center of the art circle every year. The program is kind of a secondary support program that helps artists recognized for their potential grow in earnest and provides a platform for them to take a leap forward. Kim Chang-young deals with contemplative and poetic issues by breaking away from problems of daily life and reality with vague and abstract colors and images through a series of large monochrome. However, it isn’t completely isolated from reality, but presents the ideal state of peace and tranquility seen in a culture of violence and absurdity. Seo Min-jeong doesn’t reproduce an object but rather shows images of her reactions to the work process. The object is not fixed in a single form or color but becomes a mixture of continuously flowing images and colors. Painting is the record of body movements and breathing which make us free from anxiety and fear taught by reality. Seo Won-mi produces a dark and gloomy painting with the motif of a black curtain. She expresses our daily lives and reality with a black curtain which covers facts and truths under the theme of death, wounds, and pains. The painting seems to wait for the audience to reach out and remove the curtain. The curtain is a metaphor for the depth of reality that is not flat. 주최: 세종문화회관
