Tempus Stans: Resonantia in Silentio

During my years as a student in Germany, my wristwatch was still set to Korean time. I never changed it, because it was the one coordinate that held me steady enough to go on living on German soil. Among an unfamiliar language, an unfamiliar culture, and unfamiliar people, my inner time, apart from the time on the clock, flowed slowly and quietly, as if it had stopped somewhere along the way. The silence that surrounded me, and the solitude I met within it. Whenever the words and feelings I had swallowed instead of speaking welled up inside me, I would quietly look around. And I began to record those moments. Reflections on time at a standstill. An inner resonance drawn up from that stillness. This project follows a "map of light" that illuminates the time gone by, seeking to revive the sense of time once frozen, in moments where music and images meet. Sooner or later, everyone meets moments of solitude and silence in which time seems to stand still. This is an utterly personal story, and yet the most human of stories, one that belongs to all of us. I hope that the feelings words cannot carry will reach you through an image, through silence, and through the sound of the piano. I dream that this story, born deep within me, will resonate in your time as well.
