[Program] Beethoven, String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat major, Op. 127 Smetana, String Quartet No. 1 in E minor ‘From My Life’ * The program may be subject to change without prior notice depending on the circumstances of the performers. [Program Notes] The Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra's last chamber music series in 2024 will perform two string quartet pieces that are grave and intense. The first piece is Beethoven's String Quartet No. 12. The Quartet No. 12 in four movements, is a portal to learn the aspects of later works of Beethoven's string quartet. Every line is full of deep contemplation and fantasy. Different from his mid-term quartet pieces, which are strictly divided in a structure, the evolution of form and high nobleness are unveiled while soft melodies are alternately sung and progressed between the parts. The musical concepts that he stacked up on top of each other day by day matured and began to develop into original and creative expressions that are unprecedented. Czech composer Smetana has in common with Beethoven; they could not hear in the end. Smetana, whose hearing deteriorated quickly, quit all public offices and devoted himself to composing for the last 10 years of his life. In 1876, he reflected on his life in despair from loss of hearing, and fully expressed his feelings in the string quartet No. 1. That’s why the subtitle "From My Life" came. It would surely be a precious and meaningful time to reflect your past year listening to the performance of Han Ji-yeon, Kim Soo-young (violin), Kang Yun-ji (viola), and Kim So-yeon (cello). 주최: 세종문화회관
