Pianist Ahn Hwayoung Recital

Pianist Ahn Hwa-young received the Performance Excellence Award when graduating from Sunhwa Arts Middle and High Schools and was awarded an academic excellence scholarship from Seoul National University. Then she went over to the US and obtained a Master of Music from Yale University and a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University, both with full scholarships. Ahn studied with Kim Gui-yeon, Kim Hye-rim and Lee So-eun in Korea, and Pavel Nersessian, Ory Shihor, and Peter Frankl in the US, and while she was a doctoral candidate, she taught undergraduate and graduate students for two years as a teaching assistant. After graduation, she performed at Boston University Tanglewood Institute as a workshop pianist and then went on to teach at Boston Conservatory in Berklee and Phillips Exeter Academy as an adjunct faculty member. Ahn now teaches piano performance and counterpoint at Kookmin University, Busan University, Sookmyung Women’s University, and Kangwon University as well as instructs at Sunhwa Arts Middle and High Schools, Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School, Kaywon Arts High School, and Incheon Arts High School.
